Wallflower Ponies is a photographic project by Sophia Best, working to re-home and aid equines currently based at Bolenowe Animal Sanctuary, situated on The Lizard in Cornwall. The project looks into the beauty of equines, producing serene and luscious floral images. Each horse is a wallflower, often disregarded and seemingly insignificant, consequently discovered residing in the sanctuary.
The intention of the project has been to attract attention to the beauties that are, Wallflower Ponies; each horse and pony advertised are either for permanent loan from the sanctuary, or in need of adoption. In order to attract, the name has been played with, adorning flowers to each horse. Each has a different layout of floral embellishment, matching to traits of their personalities and character, which strive to depict the story of each individual’s journey from rescue to fully thriving animals seeking prospective loving owners. There is an issue of overbreeding, resulting in the overcrowding of horses and therefore horses being given up to sanctuaries. This project has been created to make an impact, aiding ponies that may be suitable to be re-homed, providing them with a larger possibility of obtaining that forever home much faster.
